Image
In 1898, the first film camera was invented by Thomas Edison and his company, at an estimated cost of $3,000. It would take another 20 years for cameras to become affordable enough for the general public. The first movie in which we can see footage from a video camera is a Swedish short called "Everyday Life in Africa" which was filmed in 1911.The Lumiere brothers continued to develop the technology throughout their careers and released "The Making of L'Arroseur arrosée". The Lumiere Brothers were able to create an early version of what we now call cinema.   The first camera was invented in 1826 by Joseph Nicephore Niepce. He developed the earliest photographic process known as heliography. He exposed gunpowder on a pewter plate,  Image source: https://www.istockphoto.com/ sensitized it with iodine vapor and then washed it with salt water. After exposure to light, the resulting image was visualized as a negative of the original image. These images were published as engravings in a book by Niepce called "View from the Window at Le Gras",  Image source: https://www.reliancedigital.in/ but the long exposure time made Niepce's process useful only for static subjects.
